The Building Department is charged with the protection of the public health, safety and welfare
through the review and inspection of design, renovation, repair, construction, use and
occupancy, location, and maintenance of all properties, buildings and structures defined under
the Michigan Building Code, within the jurisdictional boundaries of Windsor Charter Township

The Building Department is available in person from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday’s at 300
W. Jefferson St. (Rear entrance, behind Windsor Township Emergency Services Building.)

If you are calling to schedule an inspection for an approved permit, please leave your name, the
property address where work is being conducted, the permit number, and any additional
information. You will receive a return telephone call confirming what day the inspection is
anticipated to occur.

Structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work covered under the Michigan Building Code
is not to be commenced without approval of permit and inspection of work performed under said

A fee is associated with each permit. A fee schedule was adopted by the Windsor Charter
Township Board of Trustees (“Township Board”). The fee schedule is reviewed annually and

Certain work requires appropriate licensing and therefore licensed individuals are required to
complete the permit application. Please see the attached as it concerns appropriate licensing

In order to effectively and efficiently process permit applications for licensed contractors, we ask
that licensed individuals register with the Township. Registration This is not required and no fee is
associated with the registration. Non-registered applicants will be asked to produce evidence of
appropriate license held for each permit application completed prior to issuance.
The permitting and inspection process is the foundation of protecting the public health, safety
and welfare for the Township for those construction activities regulated under the Michigan

The attached represents enforcement action that can be taken by the Building Department for

In the event that a contractor or homeowner has a complaint regarding an inspector of the
Building Department, please follow the process contained herein. Complaints
In the event that a permit applicant or permit holder disagrees with the decision of the Building
Official, inspector or plan reviewer regarding application or interpretation of provisions under the
Michigan Building Code or wishes to obtain variation from the Michigan Building Code, the
matter may be addressed by the Township’s Construction Board of Appeals. Please see the
